Mission
The churches in the United Benefice support a number of charities on a regular basis.
You can read more about our
Church Mission Society Partners Steve and Lindsey Poulson and their work with street-kids in Honduras.
In May we support
Christian Aid Week through our collections and by distributing Christian Aid Donation envelopes to most of the households in our villages.
On Remembrance Day our collections are offered to the
Royal British Legion as part of our act of remembrance for lives lost in global conflicts.
The Christingle services held in our churches reach out to a wide demographic and help the
Children’s Society through awareness-raising and collections in support of their work.
We usually respond with collections to support the appeals from the
Disasters Emergency Committee.
More locally, we regularly collect food to donate to
Wallingford Food Bank. The collection box is usually in the church porch at St Thomas' in Goring. We also collect food in St Mary's Streatley and this is donated to
CIRDIC (Churches in Reading Drop-In Centre).
In 2023, church collections were given to:
-
The Prince's Trust;
-
The Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal (DEC);
-
REACH (Reading Schools' Christian Work Trust);
-
and our own Church Mission Society Partners, Lindsey and Steve Poulson.
