Can I get married in church?

Marrying in church offers a unique opportunity to create a wedding that is personal, meaningful and spiritual. You do not have to be a regular member of one of our congregations to marry in one of our beautiful historic churches. Due to a recent change in the law, it may be possible, if you have a connection with the church, to marry here without living in the villages of Goring, Streatley or South Stoke. If you have no connection, you can make one by coming along regularly for 6 months*. This has the great added benefit of helping you feel at home here, becoming part of the community and heritage, having a chance to note down favourite readings, songs and ways of doing things, and being open to what the God of love may want to share with you both in your life ahead.

We are delighted to help you prepare for this great celebration and ongoing journey. The Clergy Team is keen to support you, not only as you prepare for your wedding day but also as you begin your married life together. We hold a marriage preparation day every February, enjoyed by couples of all ages and at all stages, whether or not they are getting married here.

Whilst marriage is for life, we also recognise that some marriages do fail. If you or your partner have been married before, it may be possible for you to be married again in church. Contact the Ministry Team who will meet with you to discuss this further. Alternatively, a service of prayer and dedication after a civil ceremony may be possible.
