Sunday 15th September                                                                Trinity 16

Welcome to our weekly newsletter
leaves on line

We have been given powerful tools to wield in the world. Our tongues, and our fingertips, if we are connected to a phone or computer.

St James opens up the subject of how we control what comes out through them, whether it is of God or of our lower self-interested self.
Let us come and learn together from God.
The Collect, the prayer for the week
  O Lord, we beseech you mercifully to hear the prayers
  of your people who call upon you;
  and grant that they may both perceive and know
  what things they ought to do,
  and also may have grace and power faithfully to fulfil them;
  through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
  who is alive and reigns with you,
  in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
  one God, now and for ever.

Eco tip for September from ARocha plus film showing in Henley
Step outside this Season of Creation (1st September – 4th October). Connect with nature and dedicate this time to God as the Creator and sustainer of all life. Choose an idea or two from our resource which is free to download at https://arocha.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Season-of-Creation.pdf Suggestions include going on a prayer walk, building a bug hotel, planning to plant some trees or picking up rubbish!

Join Greener Henley at the Regal Picturehouse in Henley for a special screening of X Trillion, an eye-opening documentary that follows the gruelling journey of eXXpedition’s all-women crew as they sail 3,000 miles across the North Pacific Ocean. Their mission? To confront the reality of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a massive area polluted primarily by microplastics, and to make the unseen, seen.

Following the film, stay for a panel discussion on tackling ocean plastic. Let’s come together to drive change for a plastic-free future and end plastic pollution!
Wednesday, 18th September at 8:00 PM. Tickets available at the Regal Picturehouse box office by clicking here.

Prayers for the week from "Roots on the web"
Loving Lord sometimes, as we hear the news of conflicts and wars, we feel helpless. The actions of national leaders which cause so much pain and suffering are beyond our understanding. We long for peace but don’t know what we can do. Help us to see that the way we live makes a difference in our world and show us how we can live in peace with all people.
May our actions and words,
Bring life changing grace.

Loving Lord, the challenge of climate change seems so great. We read of nations and businesses polluting our world and damaging the planet. We hope that the earth may be saved but the magnitude of the task seems more than we can even face, let alone accomplish. Show us that how we live and what we do plays a part in conserving our world for future generations.
May our actions and words,
Bring life changing grace.

Loving Lord as more and more people join the queues at food banks; as patients wait on trolleys for hospital beds to become available; as people fear the cost of fuel to keep their homes warm as winter approaches; we feel helpless and look on in dismay. We fear for the future of our country and the plight of those living in poverty. Teach us that if our lives are shaped by kingdom values our country will become a better place
May our actions and words,
Bring life changing grace.

Loving Lord at times we look on and weep as we hear of those suffering from pain and disease, disability and discomfort. We pray for those who watch and wait as their loved ones suffer. We hope to offer comfort but the words won’t come; we want to show we care but we don’t know what to say. Help us to know when to be silent and when to speak. Give us the words that will help and reassure and show that however alone and unloved they feel, God is with them and his love will embrace them.
May our actions and words,
Bring life changing grace.

We remember all those who grieve. We commend to you those who lost loved ones in the Grenfell Tower fire. Sometimes we just don’t know what action we should take or what we should say to them. Help us to live out the truth of Jesus’s promise that those who mourn will be comforted.
May our actions and words,
Bring life changing grace.

Loving God, teach us, guide us, show us that our actions and speech have power to bring life-changing harm or grace.
We pray in the name of Jesus who changed and changes our world.
Amen.
