Sunday 30th June                                                                          Trinity 5

Welcome to our weekly newsletter
Red admiral WM

Death and loss are real and terrible things. “Lament” is a crucial stage. As with all crises we need to bring them to God. He does care. In the light of his love in Jesus we can see this and begin to find him with us.  David’s lament for Saul and Jonathan is painful and heartfelt.

May we not pretend all is well but be real in our relationship with God.
The Collect, the prayer for the week
  Almighty and everlasting God,
by whose Spirit the whole body of the Church
  is governed and sanctified:
hear our prayer which we offer for all your faithful people,
that in their vocation and ministry
they may serve you in holiness and truth
  to the glory of your name;
through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

Digging deeper
Digging Deeper
All are warmly welcome to come along to "Digging Deeper” on Tuesday 2nd July at 10.30am-12.00pm in the Canterbury Room.
We will explore Psalm 92. Dealing with difficult realities, nurturing faithfulness in us. A suitable occasion for a prayer for our General Election!
This will be our final session before a summer break. We will consider what to offer next term for a wider audience we pray! All welcome.
Temporary newsletter deliverer for South Stoke
Our regular newsletter deliverer will be unable to make deliveries from 12th July to September 6th inclusive so we are looking for someone (or several people) who might be able to undertake this weekly task. It involves collecting paper copies of the newsletter from the porch in St Andrew’s on a Friday and delivering round the village, ideally before Sunday. The walk takes around 45 minutes. If you might be able to help some or all weeks, please contact the church office on 875651.
Thank you very much!

Summer afternoon recital in aid of St Thomas' music outreach fund

Recital Patrick Lillie 24.06
Last week, Patrick Lillie returned to St Thomas' to give a stunning piano recital in aid of St Thomas' music outreach fund.
The audience was treated to music by Debussy, Liszt, Chopin and Beethoven - all played exquisitely from memory.
We are very grateful to Patrick for sharing his talents in this way and hope it won't be too long before he returns. The recital raised over £300.
Daily Prayer continues its usual pattern. Why not join in one day? We listen to the Bible and pray for our world and church members in turn.
Monday: 8.30am Goring,     Tuesday and Thursday: 8.30am Streatley.
Friday: 9am Goring.

This week we are asked to pray

  • For our system of government and justice. For all to find ways to participate and add value to our communities and take our responsibilities in the world.
  • For the victims of violence and abuse to be empowered by God’s love to show a different way.
  • For all who grieve for loved ones lost, and that they may be able to grieve. And through it take forward good things and hope in their lives.

Prayers for this week

Thank you to Ann for this week’s prayers.

Prayers for the Church
Dear Lord, thank you for the Church, and your ministers who open our eyes to see beyond the familiar, and extend our vision to behold the Mysteries, who make us aware of your Presence and Power, and increase our sense of ability and purpose.
Help us to heed your Word and call.
Help us to be sensitive to your coming in others.
May we reach out to man and creature and know we touch You.

Prayers for Creation
Gracious God, you looked upon everything You had made, and blessed it. Give us the gift of caring contemplation so that we may know all things to be filled with your Glory.
Help us to see You in the sunshine, find you in the fragrance of flowers, hear Your voice in birdsong, feel You in the breath of the wind, behold you in all creatures great and small, and touch You in everything around us, so that we may know the joy of your Presence, and share with You the care for all that you have made.
Give us dreams, Living God, of a planet healed in which humanity and all creation are the precious threads of the weave. Dreams of peace with justice shared in common with all.

Prayers for the community
God of our village, and of our nation, thank you for those men and women who give themselves in Politics and Civic Life to the renewal of our communities. They are often Your agents of change. Thank you for their courage.
Bless them with Your wisdom and compassion. Guide and guard them in their work, and lead them and us to enlist in Your Kingdom. Help us to find the better world that both lies within, and surrounds our own.

Prayers for the World
Dear Lord, please bless all your people, especially the children, and all your creatures caught in the conflicts in Palestine and Israel, Ukraine and Russia, and in war zones everywhere. Shield them, and send them help.
May they be given shelter, medicines, food and water, and peace, and above all love to comfort and sustain them. In Jesus name.
Loving Father, thank you for giving every child a guardian angel. Bless all who share the care of these, Your little ones, especially Steve and Lindsey in Talanga, and the young people with them.

Prayers for the sick
Dear Lord, whose touch brings healing, please bless the King, the Princess of Wales, and Princess Anne, and those in our community.
And grant them all your Peace.

Thanksgiving for the communion of saints
Dear Lord, we remember all those who have gone before us into heaven.
Unite us with them in your love.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
