Sunday 8th October                                                                      Trinity 18
Welcome to our weekly newsletter
Harvest basket WM
Harvest celebrations continue:
“Our land has yielded its harvest. God has blessed us.” Psalm 67, v6.

We desire to live faithfully and thankfully.
We share with those whose harvest store is empty.
Trinity 18:
Almighty and everlasting God,
increase in us your gift of faith
that, forsaking what lies behind
and reaching out to that which is before,
we may run the way of your commandments
and win the crown of everlasting joy;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Harvest:
Eternal God,
you crown the year with your goodness
and you give us the fruits of the earth in their season:
grant that we may use them to your glory,
for the relief of those in need and for our own well-being;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

Harvest at St Mary’s
There will be a Bring and Share Lunch in the Morrell Room this Sunday, 8th October, following the all age Harvest Service at St. Mary's at 11:15am.
Please bring a plate of food along on the day (either sweet or savoury or both, if possible).
Most importantly, this is an opportunity to invite family, friends, and non-regulars from the village to join us for our Harvest Service, and for fellowship afterwards.
John Rogers
Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust
Lily from this organisation writes “We’re trying to understand how local people value their local spaces – particularly with a focus on the wildlife that lives there. I am hoping to talk to people about what they value about the local landscape, what they'd like to see improved in their local area, and also if there are any barriers to their accessing nature. It is my hope that addressing some of these barriers could lead to us being able to try and overcome them, and broaden engagement with nature as much as possible.” Lily hopes to be at our harvest service at St Mary’s and looks forward to speaking with you!
Children and Families worker update
We have received no applicants for this role so need to pray, review, pray and explore how the tasks may be broken down into smaller, shareable chunks, as well as keeping our advert spreading.

Goring Chamber Choir Concert – We Will Remember Them
As the season of remembrance approaches, Goring Chamber Choir is taking a fresh look at music that has been written over the centuries for times of grieving. Familiar music such as the In paradisum from Fauré's Requiem and Purcell's Thou knowest, Lord (sung at the funeral service for HM the late Queen Elizabeth ll), set beside new and contemporary settings giving a positive light, such as Richard Shepherd's Holy is the true light. The choir will also sing glorious ecstatic music, such as Bainton's And I saw a new heaven, Ireland's Greater love and Wood's Hail, gladdening light, which will ensure that everyone comes away uplifted! The audience will also have a chance to join in amidst choir and readings.
The concert will take place at St Thomas’ on Saturday 28th October at 3pm.
Tickets are £15 (free for under 18’s) and obtainable from Inspiration or from a choir member or on the door.

Prayers for this week

Thank you to Judith for this week’s prayers.

Heavenly Father, thank you that we can approach you directly with our requests because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross which broke down the barrier between yourself and us.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Loving God, we pray for people who have had to flee from their homes, because of earthquakes, drought or floods. Forgive us for any part we as human beings have played in causing these catastrophes and help us to use the knowledge we have today to reverse the effects of our ignorance and greed. Please help all the agencies who are working hard to alleviate the suffering of the victims of these disasters. We pray, too, for those who have become refugees because of war. We think especially of the people of Ukraine, Sudan and the Armenians who have fled from Nagorno-Karabakh. Please bless all the people who are opening their doors and hearts to refugees around the world. May their example inspire us all to be more generous.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Merciful God, we ask you to help all the people who are working to find ways to help reverse the damage we are doing to our planet. We thank you for the progress which has been made and the encouragement and incentives which have been offered, not least by the Prince of Wales, to enterprising inventors and scientists to realise their visions for a sustainable future.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Gracious Lord, we pray for Christians who are being persecuted for their faith in so many countries around the world. Help us to find ways to support and encourage them to continue to have faith in you. May their courage and determination inspire us as we seek to bring those we love and live amongst into your kingdom.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord, we pray for our young people and ask you to guide the person you have chosen to be our Children and Families Worker to apply for this position. We pray for Jo and Luke and their children as they prepare to leave us early next year, and ask you to bless them and guide them. Please bless and encourage all those who help with Wild Church, Tom Toms and Discoverers.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Loving Father, we pray for those we know who are sick and ask for your comfort and healing for them. We remember all those who have died recently and pray for their families and friends in their grief.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
