The focus of the campaign this May is on countries like Malawi and Kenya where farmers are suffering the consequences of global warming. During Christian Aid Week, we are planning to deliver envelopes to people’s homes with a note asking them to take their donations to Jack’s or Inspiration for Goring and Streatley, or the Village Shop in South Stoke. If you are able to deliver the envelopes in your road or one near you, please collect the relevant folder from St Thomas’ Church for roads in Goring, or volunteer your help to your Church Wardens for roads in Streatley and South Stoke. Your help will be greatly appreciated. In addition this year there will be a Ploughman's Lunch in aid of Christian Aid on Monday 15th May, 12.00-2.00pm. Do, please, come along! Piano Recital by Patrick Lillie There will be a recital at St Thomas’ this Sunday, 14th May, at 3pm. Having delighted listeners at his previous recital last September, this gifted young pianist returns with a new programme including works by Mozart, Liszt, Gershwin, Debussy and Granados. There is no charge for entry but there will be a retiring collection to support the work of Christian Aid. Ascension Day, Thursday 18th May 40 days on from Easter Jesus has accomplished all he came to do on Earth and so has ascended back to his glorious fullness in heaven. We use human language and all our art to express praise and to understand. No longer limited to a human form he reigns as our true king and at the Father’s right hand, and is praying for us. We give thanks and celebrate with a service of Holy Communion at 8pm in St Mary’s and may even let bubbles rise in a glass after the service. All welcome for this event for anyone across our 3 villages and further afield. Pick-a-Flick, Thursday 18th May, 10:30am The May Pick-a-Flick will be screening the film “Mrs Harris goes to Paris”. As usual, there will be coffee before the film and a light lunch afterwards and we ask for a contribution of £5 towards this. News about Jo’s plans for the future We are very pleased that Jo has been offered a job with 'Rural Mission' as the director for their South West region. She will start on 1st June and we're really pleased for her as the job is a great fit.
