HandsCross.sIn our sermon series on the church ….

We are leading up to our Parishes’ Away Day on Saturday 19th November to bring all these many ideas and possibilities together. Be part of it, please, with God. Please book the date in your diary and sign up..

"The purpose is to encourage and get to know each other and  to listen to God; and through God and each other to discern our priorities as churches – so we are not overwhelmed with all possibilities but can be clearer what we are focussing on.”

This will be in St Stephen’s, Upper Basildon. To plan it best we need to know who is coming. An RSVP by 5th October would be very helpful please. Any input as to what you would find most helpful would be welcome at this stage.

Great Big Green Day on Saturday October 1st

in the Rectory Gardens and Village Hall, 10am-2pm GreatBigGreenDay

This is part of a nationwide celebration of action on climate change.

One day to go and the sun will shine. We would love some helpers on the day just to be a friendly face at some of the information and other stalls, and cakes (with label of ingredients) to Village hall on the day, please.

Do spread the word and invite and come along.  Tea, coffee and cake are going to be served in the Village Hall

Thank you very much indeed.

Come and sing with St Mary’s choir

The choir at St Mary’s is holding a “come and sing” event this Sunday, October 2nd, at 2.30pm, for people of all voices and ages who might like to consider joining the church choir. They will be getting music ready for the Harvest Festival service on the following Sunday. The choir practises at 10am on a Sunday morning before the 11.15am service so there is no commitment to a weekday evening choir practice.

Helpers for TomToms and Discoverers

Our children’s work needs your prayers and support. At Discoverers (age 10+) Ben leads and Wendy supports (ideally Jo is not called on as she has two children in the group to give them a break from her). We occasionally need an extra adult to be present. It is lovely to have the generations meeting each other. Might you be game?

At TomToms, the input is usually from Jo or Luke and  we would love to have occasional help in this too. …. Please speak to Ben or Jo. Thank you.

Come and sing in memory of Her late Majesty

QueenElizabethOn Saturday 8th October there will be a special musical event in St Thomas’ Church, bringing together singers from various local choirs and others without affiliation to rehearse and perform a choral memorial and tribute to Queen Elizabeth II.

The programme includes Faure’s Requiem and Howells’ Like as the hart and is open to anyone who wishes to sing or to come and listen. There is a rehearsal for all singers at 2pm in St Thomas’ and the performance will begin at 6.30pm. If you are intending to sing, please email Sara (stating which voice section you will join) so that we ensure we have enough seats and music for everyone.

Goring Chamber Choir concert

The Choir's autumn concert takes place on Saturday 15th October at 3pm in St Thomas’. It is entitled Amor de mi alma (You are the love of my soul) after Randall Stroope's choral setting of a text by the Spanish Renaissance poet Garcilaso de la Vega and consists of 500 years of love songs from America to Argentina, Ireland to Italy.

Tickets: £10, £5 for students in full time education, free for under 18's.

Obtainable from Inspiration, Goring, from a choir member, email tickets@goringchamberchoir.org.uk or on the door.
