God of love,
We thank you for the life of The Queen,
for her service to our nation,
and for her faith in you.
Be close to all of us who mourn,
that we may we find comfort and hope in your love,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
There will be short reflective Benefice service for the Queen this evening, Friday 9th September, in St Thomas' at 6pm.
All our churches will be open until 9pm this evening. There will be prayer cards available and candles to light. A book of commemoration is (or will be) in our churches.
The Collect
The prayer for the week
Almighty God,
who called your Church to bear witness
that you were in Christ reconciling the world to yourself:
help us to proclaim the good news of your love,
that all who hear it may be drawn to you;

and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

New sermon series….
The Church. What are we about?
As we sometimes wonder about our identity and purpose this series will help us learn, and be encouraged.
We begin from 18th September, starting with the big picture and “Worship”.
Book the date: Saturday
19th November for our
Parishes' Away Day to bring all these many ideas and possibilities together.
Be part of it, please, with God.
Great Big Green Day on Saturday October 1st
in the Rectory Gardens and Village Hall, 10am-2pm
This really is gathering momentum….
Bring your apples for pressing, apple juice and music on tap.
Learn from experts, share your expertise on climate and biodiversity care.
We can each make a huge difference. God will help us. Ben would love some volunteers to help run some of the stalls and be on hand. Speak to Mary, John, Ann, Tom, Jenny or Ben.
Tea, coffee and cake are going to be served in the Village Hall, and contributions of cakes will be needed to make this possible. If you will be able to make a cake, could you kindly sign up on the list at the back of the church, or ring Mary. Thank you very much indeed.

Piano Recital at St Mary’s, Saturday 3rd September
Russell’s recital was technically brilliant and involved pieces that were very complex to play and very thrilling to hear. The selection of pieces from composers from the Classical Era reminded the audience of pieces that are much darker and more epic than those usually associated with the genre. Underlying lyrical themes fought with layers of disconnected dissonance, questions were asked repeatedly and the answers were never satisfactory, mortals and immortals could not fall in love without being doomed. Matching the style of these pieces were more modern compositions of two of Gershwin’s Three Preludes and James Horner’s “Theme from Krull”. There were also lighter pieces of music, Russell played a delightful Impromptu of his own composition, dedicated to his wife of a fortnight, and, for an encore, his own arrangement of She Danced With Me from The Musical Film The Slipper and the Rose (Richard & Robert B Sherman). The audience thoroughly enjoyed the recital and we hope Russell will return and play for us again in the future.
